TV Ducks and The Fun We Have With Them
67Have a quick look at the mass enjoyment our society gets out of the popular TV ducks and the companies that have made them famous. A TV duck pops up in almost every medium and barnyard animals in generals are common on TV and in advertising everywhere.
Can You Say… AFLAC!
Everyone knows this guy, even if you don’t love him he is probably the most famous duck on TV right now. Voiced by Gilbert Gottfried and created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, The duck is a combination of footage of real ducks, lifelike puppetry, and CGI graphics. Aflac is the largest supplier of supplemental insurance in the country, and has been around since 1955. The duck has officially been on the logo since 2005.
You’re Despicable!
Daffy Duck is a “screwball type” character owned by Warner Brothers Looney Toons who is Bugs Bunny’s best friend and antagonist. Appearing first in 1937 in “Porky’s Duck Hunt”, Daffy has enjoyed much TV stardom since that time, Duck Dodgers being one of his main roles. Daffy places an impressive number fourteen on TV Guides top fifty cartoon characters list, which is a boast for a non lead character that has been around so long. Daffy has evolved and grown over the years as a comedian, and I believe his finest moment pitted him in a duel of Hungarian Rhapsody number two with arch rival Donald Duck. Daffy Duck has sold everything from Ketchup to T-shirts.
Everyone’s Favorite Duck
Donald’s Middle name is Flauntleroy, he was supposedly born on June 9th 1934, and at one time he rivaled Mickey Mouse himself in popularity. Donald Duck is also a patriot, and is painted on both US Coastguard ships as well as Air Force Bombers. Donald is the only Disney character to be the official mascot of a Major American University, the University of Oregon. Donald Duck has his own Hollywood Star, given to him in 2005; it is at 6840 Hollywood Boulevard. He was voiced by Clarence Nash up until his death in 1985, and is now voiced by his protégée Tony Anselmo. As well as multiple films and comics, he stars in Kingdom Hearts the video game as King Mickey’s court wizard.
“Let’s Get Dangerous!”
Walt Disney’s version of Batman, Dark Wing Duck is a parody of superheroes, popular media, and even James Bond. Originally an hour long special program in 1991, this series was an Emmy Nominated animated show which ran from 1991to 1995 and again from 1996 to 1997. Mild mannered Drake Mallard has adventures and some of the skits are witty and entertaining.
